A recent study of Microsoft's new data centre facility in Chicago found it uses a massive 2,177 tonnes of copper. BHP estimates that the amount of copper used in data centres across the globe will increase six-fold by 2050, an uplift equivalent to the combined annual output of the world's four largest #copper mines. The rise of AI is driving the need for more data centres, which act as the "computational muscle" behind complex models that require ultra-fast processing. In order to meet this demand, large-scale investment in significant undeveloped mines, such as the #Vizcachitas project, is required. #LA

#Copper plays a key role across society. It is used in manufacturing, technology and infrastructure, as well as in fertilisers to increase food production. Its antimicrobial properties also mean it is used in medical applications. See what just one tonne of the metal can be used for #LosAndesCopper (source: International Copper Association) ⤵

For the past two years, #LosAndesCopper has supported local female entrepreneurs in Chile through its ‘Entrepreneurs of Putaendo’ programme, which is designed to improve opportunities and grow the local economy. In 2024, 41 women, whose innovative projects stood out, were selected as winners, with each receiving training in key areas to help grow their businesses sustainably, as well as a grant of 800,000 Chilean pesos to strengthen their early-stage ventures. A ceremony was held at the end of last month to celebrate the entrepreneurs and mark the successful conclusion of the second iteration of the programme. Congratulations to all who took part!

#LosAndesCopper’s Tier 1 Vizcachitas Project is one of the largest and lowest cost development stage copper assets in Latin America. The project is located in the well-established mining jurisdiction of #Chile and close to existing infrastructure – roads, ports, rail and power – thus significantly lowering upfront capex costs.
