Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs), such as renewable energy certificates (RECs) are typically issued monthly without specific hour assignments, making it challenging to align them directly with electricity consumption. When corporations purchase RECs to offset their annual energy usage, they may end up acquiring RECs generated at entirely different times and locations. This misalignment in both time and place leads to inaccurate market signals, making it difficult to ascertain where and when renewable energy is needed most. Beyond capturing time-stamped data, granular certificates also offer insights into the amount of electricity produced, the asset type or source, and grid on which it is produced.
