What is a Trusted Contact and How Can it Help Protect Your Investment? A trusted contact is a person you designate to be your backup at your brokerage firm in case you can’t be reached, you’re sick, or even if you’re suffering from diminished capacity. If you can’t be reached, you’re trusted contact can help your brokerage firm reach you and verify your contact information, address activity in your account that may indicate financial exploitation or fraud, confirm if you’re experiencing a health issue, or if your brokerage firm suspects you are sick or suffering from diminished capacity, and verify the identity of any legal guardian, executor, trustee, or holder of a power of attorney on your account.
