My biggest impressions this week were from a comment I left. Not a post I published. Comments aren't throwaway. They're micro-content on other people's stages. And done right? They drive as many clients as thoughtful posts. Often faster. Because when you comment on posts from your 4 key buckets (prospects, peers, influencers, clients), you're not just engaging. You're borrowing their audience. Think about it: A thoughtful comment on a prospect's post puts you in front of their entire network. People who trust them enough to follow their content. That's pre-warmed visibility you can't buy. The science of impactful commenting: • Show up early (first 2 hours = prime real estate) • Add value, don't just agree • Share a quick insight or experience • Ask a question that extends the conversation When prospects see you adding value in multiple places they frequent, you stop being a stranger trying to sell them something. You become part of their professional ecosystem. Social proof multiplies in clusters. When the same decision-maker sees you commenting thoughtfully on their peer's post, their industry publication, AND their own content? That's not coincidence. That's strategy. Your next client might come from a comment, not a post.

90% of LinkedIn users don't know what they want. It kills their content. Before you grow your personal brand: Get clear on your goals. Followers and fame? Consistent inbound leads? PR opportunities like podcast invites? Each goal = a different strategy. Different content. Different positioning. Different tactics. Most people chase everything at once. And end up with... Nothing. Here's what to do instead: 1. Want followers and reach? → Post broad, relatable content. → Keywords like remote work or leadership. → Make it relatable, shareable or controversial. 2. Want inbound leads? → Speak directly to your ideal client. → Focus mostly on educational content. → Solve REAL problems that your ideal client has. 3. Want PR opps? → Focus on thought-leadership content. → Share unique perspectives or opinions. → Include social proof like photos speaking on stage. Know what you want and posting becomes easier. Until then... You're trying to drive to a new destination with no map. Kinda impossible. P.S. It's okay for your goals to change, but shift your strategy when it does. What's your goal for Q4?

The one question most personal brands don't answer (and cost them thousands of dollars) You are a corporate executive and looking to your next chapter. So you think "I should build a brand" And with that brand I can sell books, consult, even do some speaking. You start to post. You join cohorts. You buy courses. But you're all over the place. In other words, what is your brand supposed to do for you? That's your northstar. Here is how to put it together: Step 1. Outcome: What do you want to have happen? Don’t stop at “influence” or “visibility.” Make it measurable. Ask: If my brand worked exactly as I hoped, what would it produce? Examples: Secure a $200K+ consulting retainer each year. Get on the radar of top 10 venture-backed healthtech startups. Land a board seat within 18 months. ___ Step 2. Audience: Who must know you to make that happen? Not “the world,” but the smallest group that creates the biggest impact. Ask: Whose yes unlocks my outcome? Examples: Hospital CEOs and CFOs (for consulting engagements). CHROs at Fortune 500s (for speaking on leadership). Series A–C medtech founders (for advisory roles). ___ Step 3. Synthesize: Your Brand Northstar Statement Formula: “I am building a brand to [Outcome] by becoming known to [Audience] as the go-to authority on [Expertise/Problem You Solve].” Examples: I am building a brand to book 10+ keynote talks per year by becoming known to Fortune 500 CHROs as the authority on inclusive leadership. I am building a brand to grow a $250K consulting business by becoming known to hospital CEOs as the expert in scaling surgical service lines. I am building a brand to land a healthtech board seat by becoming known to Series A medtech founders as the advisor who accelerates commercialization. ___ Please save yourself time, money, and heartache and do this before anything else. Clients believe what they can see. It's not enough to say, “We’ll save you fifty thousand in taxes.” They want to see how you took someone from point A to point B. When you show actual outcomes (not just ideas or intentions), you earn trust. That’s the difference between saying you're strategic and showing you're results-driven. Social proof > sales pitch. If your offer’s not converting, this is the first place to look (and it’s not your price). Most people obsess over the what of their offer (the product, the price, the discount). But that’s not the problem. The problem is how you present it. We’ve seen the same deal flop as “50% OFF” and crush it as “Buy One Get One Free.” We’ve watched “Limited Time Only” get ignored while “While Supplies Last” drove urgency. We’ve moved the exact same 90-day guarantee from the footer to the headline and watched conversions spike. Why? Because people don’t buy what’s best. They buy what’s clearest and most compelling in the moment. So if your offer isn’t landing, it’s not time to panic or pivot, it’s time to test the framing. Founders who get this grow faster.
