Currently, $84 billion of the total assets managed by institutional investors in Israel are allocated to private capital markets. According to IVC Data and Insights analysis, from 2020 to May 2024, Israeli institutional investors participated in 68 Israeli VCs, raising $9.93 billion. Upon closer examination, local institutional investors participated in funds capital raising of $9.25 billion (comprising most of the capital) into the market during 2020-2022. The figures for 2023 and the first five months of 2024 reflect a halt. Israeli institutional investors participated in just $667 million in 2023, a decline of 82% compared to 2022. By May 2024, the participation of the Israeli institutionals in the local VC funds summed up to $20 million. The Israeli institutionals don’t divert from the downtrend. The IVC–Gornitzky–KPMG Investors Report 2023 revealed that in 2023, only 21 Israeli VC funds raised $1.52b, marking a decrease of 66% in the number of funds and a freefall of 74% in capital raised compared to 2022. Israeli venture capital funds have an estimated $10.08b remaining for investments (dry powder) in Israeli high-tech companies. Approximately $2.38b (24%) is available for new portfolio companies. IVC Data and Insights report on the Israeli venture market for Q1-Q3 2024 reveals: - $7.4 billion invested in Israeli startups, surpassing the entire 2023 total of $6.9 billion. - $13 billion generated from exits, a 26% increase from 2023's $10.4 billion. - 23% surge in foreign investments year-over-year. - 67% of capital sourced from global investors, with 33% from Israeli funds. - $2.7 billion secured by early-stage startups, the second-highest figure in Israeli startup ecosystem history (after 2022's record). Israeli Startup Raised $20 Million to Expand Precision-Spray Tech Greeneye Technology, an Israel-based precision agriculture tech company, raised $20 million. Deep Insight, an Israeli investment company, led the round with participation from existing investors Syngenta Group Ventures, JVP, Orbia Ventures, and Mellanox. Farmers increasingly face challenges with spraying chemical herbicides via conventional broadcast. Greeneye’s technology can detect and spray only those areas with weeds, rather than hitting crops or bare ground. Greeneye will use the funding to scale up its operations in the USA and introduce new features and capabilities to its system. “A big concern today for farmers is, they’re running out of tools to manage the weeds on the farm because of resistance,” explains Greeneye CEO Nadav Bocher. “Farmers are getting excited about this technology not only because of the savings but also because of the options it opens as far as weed control”. I was recently included in the list of the 1,000 most active angel investors in Israel https://lnkd.in/erPY8utD (I invest in Israel, the US, and Europe) The authors (Joey Faur and Oz Hassine from Flashpoint Venture Capital) gave some great tips on reaching out to angel investors. Since the article is in Hebrew, I am providing the translation below for your convenience. ''When crafting your pitch, keep the message short and focused, and make sure to include several key elements: 1. Opening: Briefly introduce yourself and your startup. 2. Value Proposition: Highlight what sets your startup apart and why it’s an excellent investment opportunity. 3. Achievements: Emphasize significant accomplishments, such as winning competitions or participating in accelerators. 4. Meeting Request: Clearly state your intention to discuss a potential investment. 5. Attachments: Include relevant materials, like an investor pitch deck, but avoid overloading with unnecessary information. 6. It's important to maintain conciseness—a message that’s too long won’t get read. When an angel investor shows interest, you need to be fully prepared for the meeting. Have a deep understanding of all the details related to your idea—financial data, forecasts, key performance indicators, competitors, and anticipated challenges. Your pitch should focus on the investor’s areas of interest and address potential questions even before the angel asks them. Even if you don’t secure an immediate investment, continue to nurture the relationship with the angel investor you met.   **Clean2Go System Concludes Successful Pilot in Negev Region, Israel**   We are excited to announce the successful completion of the Clean2Go pilot project in the Negev region, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Chief Scientist of Israel.  This innovative waste management platform has showcased impressive results, marking a significant step forward in our efforts to enhance environmental sustainability.   Key Highlights from the Pilot:   -Waste Account Reduction: Two participating municipalities experienced a remarkable decrease in waste metrics, with reductions ranging from 20% to 27%. This demonstrates the effectiveness of Clean2Go in promoting efficient waste disposal practices.   Private Contractor Work Reduction: The pilot also managed to significantly reduce the workload of private contractors, showing a decrease of over 80%. This decrease not only reflects increased efficiency but also promotes a more sustainable model for waste management.   Enhanced Truck Efficiency: There was a notable improvement in the operational efficiency of cleaning trucks, with a 15% increase in their productivity in work mode. This optimization ensures that resources are utilized effectively, leading to better service delivery.   The positive outcomes of this pilot highlight Clean2Go’s potential to transform waste management practices across Israel. Israeli Government Launched A New Fund for Supporting Institutional Investors in Tech Sphere Israel Innovation Authority רשות החדשנות Authority together with the Ministry of Finance launched a new fund named Yozma 2.0. It has a goal to encourage institutional investors to boost investments in tech-focused Israeli venture capital funds. Yozma 2.0 will offer institutional investors a mechanism to enhance returns on their investments over the next 20 months. The fund will direct $160 million in public money to venture capital funds supporting Israeli tech companies. "We are in a period where we need to plan a strategy for transitioning from war to growth, and smart investment in Israeli high-tech is one of the first steps we are advancing," said Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.
