Happy #SchoolPrincipalsDay! At Student Leadership Network, we’re proud to work alongside an inspiring network of school principals across The Young Women’s Leadership Schools (TYWLS), our CollegeBound Initiative (CBI) partner schools, and our Young Women’s Leadership affiliate schools. Their commitment to their students enables us to do the work that we do - advancing education for girls and gender-expansive youth and college access and success. Thank you, #principals! This month, 43 students from 14 CollegeBound Initiative (CBI) partner schools came together for our first network-wide college exposure trip with The Posse Foundation. Students visited Lafayette College and Franklin & Marshall College in Pennsylvania to explore college options outside of NYC, gain a deeper understanding of the Posse program and available scholarships, and learn about the key factors to consider when choosing a college. 🎓 The Posse Foundation identifies, trains, and recruits students with extraordinary leadership skills who go on to earn full-tuition, merit-based scholarships from its partner colleges and universities. The Posse Foundation also provides mentoring, career planning, and other support to students, resulting in scholars achieving a 90% graduation rate! One student who attended the trip shared: “Being able to participate in this exposure trip helped me explore colleges I had never heard of before, opened my mind to liberal arts schools, and gave me more clarity on finding my best-fit college, especially outside of New York City.” Thank you to the staff at Lafayette College and Franklin & Marshall College for providing a warm welcome to our students! Shout out to Student Leadership Network’s CBI team - Angelique Figueroa, Benjamin Ramos, Cristin (., John Toribio-Perez, Kiomaris Sandoval, and Tyra Riedemonn for their work in providing students with excellent college exposure opportunities like this. Talia Scott, an alumna of The Young Women’s Leadership School (TYWLS) of Manhattan and a 2023 (Em)Power Breakfast honoree, was recently honored with the prestigious Ruth Bader Ginsburg Memorial Scholarship from the New York State Bar Association for her work in creating the Legally BLK Fund, Inc.. The Legally BLK Fund, a nonprofit organization, helps Black women cover the costs of law school, including application fees, LSAT preparation classes, and travel expenses associated with attending law school. The organization also offers #mentorship and #professionaldevelopment for those applying to law school. Talia shared: “I didn’t grow up surrounded by lawyers. So, I made a choice not just to become what I didn’t see, but to create a pathway, so others wouldn’t have to look as hard to find themselves in the legal profession.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/e8JKMR7K #AlumniSpotlight #GirlsEducation #LegallyBLKFund #LawSchool #Lawyers #LegalProfession #EquityinEducation
